The Francis D. Lyon Scholarships are made possible through a generous gift made by Brother “Pete” Lyon, UCLA ’28, to the Foundation.  Brother Lyon established the scholarships in 1996 to assist students who shared his passion for making films.  Individuals who are not members of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity are eligible to receive the Lyon scholarships and are actively encouraged to apply.  Currently, the scholarship is $2,500.

Pete was an Academy Award winning film editor, writer and producer.  A founding father of the California Gamma chapter, Pete served the Fraternity on the Survey Commission, as a chapter adviser, as an alumni club officer and as a province president.  Pete entered the Chapter Grand in October 1996, and the Oscar he received for his work on the film “Body and Soul” (1947) is on display at the Phi Delta Theta General Headquarters.  See Pete's impressive list of credits on the internet movie data base.
